Costa Rica Sport Fishing highlighted by Los Suenos Signature Billfish Series

Costa Rica continues to rein supreme as a top sport  fishing vacation destination, as one of the world’s most popular deep sea fishing tournaments in Costa Rica comes to a close.  The second leg of the 8th annual Los Suenos signature Bill fish series has been the most successful to date, surpassing previous tournament  catch and release records.

This action packed Costa Rica catch and release sport fishing event took place in Playa Herradura in Puntarenas Costa Rica, at the luxury Los Suenos Resort and Marina.   The first leg of the two heated Costa Rica deep sea sport fishing contests was held from January 26th to the 29th, and the second leg was held from March the 2nd to the 5th.  With the three best performing boats taking home much coveted trophies and generous cash prizes, this Los Suenos signature Bill fish series was a highly contested Costa Rica sport fishing tournament.

The task ahead for the avid Puntarenas sport fishing tournament participants was simple: catch and release plentiful amounts of marlin as well as Pacific sailfish. A point system awarded deep sea fishing boats 500 for each marlin and 100 for each Pacific sailfish caught and successfully released. Endorsed by the World Billfish Series and the International Game Fish Association, The Los Suenos signature billfish series attracts anglers from all over the world to Costa Rica every year.

With thirty three participating  deep sea fishing teams and one hundred and ninety five anglers, this was a record breaking  Costa Rica sport fishing event. The winning sport fishing teams were Game On, Gotcha and Bog Oh, walking away with a combined cash total of $82,000. The award for the top angler for the two heats of the Los Suenos Signature Billfish Series went to Gray Ingram, owner and angler of the Big Oh, with an impressive catch and release tally of 25 sails and 1 marlin.

Surpassing all previous records, each boat achieved an incredible count of more than thirty catch and releases.  An impressive end-of-tournament tally of 1246 billfish, 1142 sailfish and 104 marlin clearly demonstrates why the Central Pacific Costa Rica coast is recognized as one of the best sports fishing destinations in the world.  With solid Costa Rica fishing throughout the year, sails, billfish, roosterfish and snappers are plentiful in these waters.
