If you’re in need of a chill out weekend then head down to the Costa Rican Museum of Art, Museo de Arte Costarricense (MAC), for Yogarte, located in La Sabana Park in San Jose. The newly renovated art museum holds the successful Yogarte event once every two months, on Saturdays. The next Yoga event to be held in the San Jose art museum is scheduled for May 28, 2011.

The ever popular Yogarte is a free event and is the perfect blend of music, yoga and art. Yogarte begins with a guided tour of the Costa Rican Art Museum which was once Costa Rica’s international airport. The tour will cover national and international artists and will include many of Costa Rica’s most valued artistic compositions including an exhibition of pre-Columbian artifacts.
The museum tour is followed by a relaxing yoga session led by the experienced yoga instructors, Nango Murray and Vanessa Cavallini, and accompanied by the soothing acoustic sounds of Carlos Tapao Vargas, a recognized Costa Rican musician who is a member of well known national bands Editus and Mal Pais.
Yogarte is the perfect mini yoga retreat during your stay in San Jose Costa Rica. If you have never taken a yoga class before, Yogarte is an excellent opportunity for yogis of all levels with classes for both beginners and advanced participants available. Yoga is an incredibility beneficial technique which relaxes the body and mind, reducing stress levels and improving muscle tone, flexibility and your general health.
The day’s events at Yogarte in San Jose continue with a relaxing meditation session held in the beautiful Salon Dorado (Golden Hall). The meditation session will be run by Vanessa Cavallini, a psychologist, Reiki and holistic therapist with more than ten years experience working in countries including Italy, Spain and Honduras and Costa Rica.
The San Jose Yogarte attraction is brought to close with live music from a selection of national Costa Rican bands. Although Yogarte is a free event, organizers do ask for specific donations. Additionally, yoga and meditation participants are also asked to bring a yoga mat and blanket, although a limited number are for rent.
