If you are heading to the popular surfing hotspot of Playa Jaco during your Costa Rica vacation, expect sporty crowds on Saturday 30^th and Sunday 31^st of July.   The Copa Triathlon is a popular Costa Rica activity that has already entertained sports spectators at Playas del Coco, Guanacaste and the port of Puntarenas this year.

An Early Start for Costa Rica Triathlon Participants at Jaco Beach

It’s early to bed on Saturday night because it’s a 6 a.m. start for all Costa Rica triathlon participants in the Kids, Olympic and Sprint events.  This Costa Rica sport event has been split into 15 categories according to age:  a 200m – 1500m swim, a 5 km to 40 km cycle race and a 1km to 10 km mini marathon.  It’s notable that the 60 and over category is one of the most popular for enrollment, requiring participants to complete the same distances as athletes half their age. They are certainly up to the Costa Rica triathlon challenge!

 

Costa Rica Triathlon Begins with the Kids Events

The first to step up are the kids, whose swimming competition begins on Playa Jaco in front of the Best Western Hotel. The kids

swimming is divided into two categories: 9-11’s 200m and 12-13’s 400m. They are then required to undertake a 5 km or 10km cycling journey, setting off from the main Jaco Boulevard. The winner of the kid’s event is decided with a 1 km or 2 km race to the finish line.
