Pura Vida!
10/10 all day for House of the Rising Sun!!!
Fantastic Stay!
The main house was laid out in two stories with large living, dining and kitchen areas. The downstairs had two master bedrooms and a large shared bathroom. I slept in the upstairs loft above the living room and though it was open air I had plenty of privacy and my own bathroom with a shower.
The second building off the pool was huge with bedrooms that provided two masters with bathrooms and a large room with two doubles for the kids. The deck area in that building provided a great spot for playing games, a second kitchen with a refrigerator, and an open air shaded area with nice winds blowing through it. The pool provided a lot of entertainment and the slide was a big hit for kids and adults a like. There was a pool table room right off the pool along with a hot tub, all of which made for more forms of entertainment for everyone.
The staff was incredible! From the initial contact to leaving, everyone was responsive and helpful. Fernando, Indra and Carlos were all very helpful from booking to planning events. Rickey greeted us even though we were delayed at SJO having taken 2 hours to get through customs. He was very helpful in getting us in and situated and helpful during the trip if we needed anything.
The cleaners were wonderful! Jamie and Elieth were very friendly and did a fantastic job of cleaning the entire place daily. It was nice to come back at the end of the day and have laundry clean and folded on our beds. Jamie was very talented in making towel animals and leaving them on our made beds everyday. They were on property all day and you rarely see them, there is a laundry room were they hang during the day doing what they need to do.
Since there was 10 of us, going out for dinner was going to be costly and involve having to get 10 people in a restaurant every night so I opted for the in house chef. With food for ten of us it was about $225 to $250 a night including food depending on what you have, easily what dinner would have been out for 10. Our chef was Esteban and was assisted by Jocelyn. Every night we were thrilled with a delicious creation of fresh fish or local beef and chicken. All the fresh ingredients combined with Estaban's talents made for a fantastic meal every evening and the kids were totally fine with meals. They would prepare the table, cook and clean the dishes and kitchen every night. I highly recommend your adding this option at least for a few nights. We also had two incredible breakfasts that were equally amazing as the dinners.
But the prime thing about this house is the location. It's up the hill surrounded by jungle which makes it a prime spot for wildlife. The first morning we were there a troop of white faced monkeys came into the trees right on the property. They are quite entertaining and everyone was amazed to have them within feet of us including on the deck. That was a daily occurence. Every morning we had Macaw's, Toucan's, Frigate Birds, among many others sunning themselves in the tops of the trees. A few days in, the Howler monkeys showed up, they get you up early but being up early is well worth it, that's when the wildlife comes out.
The view is fantastic! Almost every night we sat on the deck off the living room and watched lightning storms over the Pacific, just another cool thing about the location.
A couple other notes, you can walk from the house up to restaurants and bars, groceries and bank ATM.
We booked several tours through Escape Villa's including the daytime Manual Antonio and a nighttime Jungle tour in Manual Antonio, a beach day at Manual Antonio and a boat tour. All of these were great and well worth it.
The entire house is air conditioned which is a major plus. The kitchen is very well stocked. Everyone said the beds were comfortable.
All around this was a fantastic stay and well worth the price!

Wonderful Week
The kitchen is well-equipped, and while we were there a new gas BBQ grill was delivered. The daily housekeeping and laundry service exceeded our expectations and was incredibly professional. Those two ladies really worked hard and made our stay great. The furniture is very comfortable with a huge dining table for group meals and games.
